According to the Government, the UK has seen dramatic increases in childhood obesity in recent years. The BBC reports that more and more children in the UK are becoming obese - it's been described as a modern epidemic. Around 27 per cent of children are now overweight and research suggests the main problem is a continual reduction in the amount of exercise children take. Many overweight children have overweight parents - it's often a matter of family lifestyles.
With the implementation of ‘The 2012 Inspirational Campaign’, Sports for Schools wishes to encourage young pupils through this scheme to help reduce the amount of health problems faced in today’s society. Changing the culture in modern society via encouraging children to see sport and fitness as the “norm” and not chore, is crucial to tackling these health epidemics.
