happy smiling pupils

Take a look at what people have said about Sports for Schools. It’s always good to hear your feedback (…and we’re proud to say it’s totally UNPROMPTED and UNEDITED!)

Belsay First School (26th May 2017)

Just to let you know that our inspirational assembly day with Sally was exactly that; what an amazing ambassador for sport to welcome into school. Her infectious enthusiasm was a joy to see; the children responded well and were thrilled to find such talent is from our local area. Her message to grasp all opportunities, try new things and persevere is one which we will be taking further next term. Thank you.

St James’ CE Academy (4th March 2017)

I am emailing to pass on my thanks for an amazing Sports for Schools event which took place at St James’ CE Academy on Thursday 2nd March. James Denny and Jay organised our sponsored sports circuit in a very efficient and enjoyable manner. The children (and staff) were fully engaged in activities that stretched them physically and presented real challenge and fun.

The assembly delivered by James was informative and very enjoyable. It is not always easy to engage all children within a broad age range (4-11 years) but James managed it extremely well – pitching information skilfully at just the right level. The pupils were excited and inspired by the story of his success as well as the amazing demonstration of his physical skills.

All in all we have a fantastic morning. Please pass on our thanks to James and Jay.

We would welcome the opportunity to be involved in any similar events and look forward to working together again in the future.

Bellfield Junior School (29th November 2016)

I wanted to drop a line to say a huge thank you for your visit. It had quite an effect on our school. When we normally fundraise we are lucky to get £500 – this time we got well over £1500! Further, we had a gymnastics team who were struggling a little – Dominick inspired them that day, to the point they were asking for extra practice time with Mr Coleman – every dinner time they practiced like mad. So, last Tuesday in a competition against 7 other schools, they won and are now through to a level 3 final in the near future. They have said how much Dominick’s visit made them want to do more! Further, the whole school was alive that morning – the staff and children thoroughly enjoyed it and parents commented how much their children talked about it. So, thank you again for firstly coming along and secondly, inspiring our children.

Kedington Primary Academy (5th October 2016)

The event was truly inspiring and left us all feeling thankful that Roy had come in and demonstrated to the children what having a true growth mindset can mean. The organisation was superb and everything from the children’s circuit to the assembly was perfect. The feedback from the children and parents was exceptional – thank you!

Hastings Hill Academy (11th March)

I’d just like to say what a fantastic day we had last Friday. The children absolutely loved taking part and both Chris and Gemma were brilliant at motivating our children. The event created a buzz around school for the rest of the day and it has inspired some children to gather sponsorship when perhaps they might not have been interested previously.

Gemma’s story of her journey to bring an Olympic athlete certainly enthralled the children and hopefully she has been able to help the children aspire to great things in the future.

I would highly recommend the event to any school and it’s something which we would very much like to be a part of in the future.

Looking forward to raising plenty of money!

Kind regards,

Jane (Head Teacher)

Morton Primary School (26th January)

I am writing on behalf of my school to thank you so much for a fantastic event.

Jo Jackson joined us yesterday and we had an amazing afternoon topped off with her wonderful motivational speech which was inspirational. The children were so excited pre event, loved the exercises and parents have been hugely supportive with sponsors but the best bit was the lovely approach to the children, her warmth and encouragement and her account of her experience to get to the top.

The children were queuing to get her autograph and speak to her at the end and I know this will be an experience to remember.

Our sincere thanks to Jo and yourselves for setting up such a well organised and beneficial event.

Radnor Primary School (15th June 2015)

The event was excellent, both men were superb, enthusiastic, organised and caring. The children had a whale of a time, all exhausted and all puffing and panting – and all smiling.  One of my children has cerebral palsy so was particularly interested to meet Ben, who was more than happy to spend time having a chat with him.

So thank you.

Stanwick Primary School (29th April 2015)

We had an absolutely fantastic afternoon with Jo [Jackson] on Wednesday, all the staff have commented on what a great event it was and how smoothly it went. Jo did a very inspirational assembly and was a perfect role model for the kids. I must also give lots of praise to Twinelle (not sure if I’ve spelt that correctly!), the sportivater, her organisational skills are excellent and she kept the whole thing running smoothly. Both the girls are a credit to your company. Your communication has also been brilliant, so thank you for that.

Wroughton Junior School (24th April 2015)

I just wanted to get in touch about today’s Sports for Schools event at our school. Andy [the sportivater] and Dave [Abrutat] were absolutely fantastic and all the children had a wonderful time! I went out on lunchtime duty after the guys had left and all the children were talking about the event, Andy, Dave and the bike!

I just wanted to pass on our thanks to them for doing such a great job. Andy was really well organised and motivated the children brilliantly, modelling the exercises and keeping them going. Dave made a huge impact on the children and staff and is an inspiration to us all – we feel privileged to have met such a determined, positive and kind person.

Joseph Locke Primary School (9th February 2015)

Just to let you know that we had a brilliant ‘Sports for Schools’ experience. Both our Sportivater and our sports personality [James Kirton] were really enthusiastic with all the children they worked with (including nursery children which is brilliant) and I have had nothing but positive feedback from children, staff and even parents who said they had heard about nothing else!!!

My own little girl who is a swimmer with Rotherham metro even told OFSTED when she was interviewed by them in her own school that it wasn’t fair that we had had a visit from James Kirton and they hadn’t!!!

As a school we were a little anxious about the assembly which was to be delivered to over 400 children. However, we need not have worried. After a really enthusing introduction from our sportivator, James delivered a really interesting, engaging and enthusing assembly which was truly inspirational. What’s more the assembly was really interactive and therefore kept even our youngest listeners engaged.

A huge big thank to Sports for Schools for a great experience

Belmont Grosvenor School (26th January 2015)

We think it was a great success. James [Kirton – Olympic swimmer] was charming and engaging to the children and was good humoured and tolerant throughout what must have been a fairly exhausting programme. Twinelle was equally positive and encouraging to all the children and a great support to James and both were pleasant to talk to for the staff. James did just the right kind of assembly inspiring the children to regard failure as a challenge and work hard, persevere, believe in yourself and keep on going. Super.
Many Thanks to both

Kind Regards

Eastlea Primary School, Northumberland (14th November 2014)

We had a super event today led by Peter Bakare.  Everyone was impressed with the way the session was run – well organised, slick and professional.  Peter spoke well to the children in the assembly and really tuned in to them in terms of being ‘at their level’.  We had great fun and will do our best to push the sponsor money collection next week in advance of the deadline.

Cadishead Primary School, Salford (10th October 2014)

I just wanted to say what an honour and a privilege it was to have Lee and Oliver with us last Friday. Lee was such a genuinely lovely guy (as was Oliver) and his assembly to the children was inspirational, not just in relation to sport but to all aspects of life and I felt that everything he said was re-iterating what we say to them on a daily basis. The feedback I have received from both staff and children has all been about how much they enjoyed the event. I am sure both Lee and Oliver will remember their trip to Cadishead Primary as the fire alarm went off in the middle of the session and we had to evacuate the building – I’m happy to say it was one of our break time ‘toast mums’ burning the toast and nothing serious!

Our children were really motivated to write about Lee’s visit and we have put some pictures on twitter and we will also share links to the blogs. If you are doing this sort of fundraising with schools in the future we would be very keen to participate again.

Bugle School (17th September 2014)

I am writing to say how delighted we are with the event held at Bugle School yesterday afternoon. David and Charlie were brilliant – the children were motivated, engaged and inspired (as were the staff!). Please can you pass on our thanks to David and Charlie from everyone at Bugle School?

This memorable visit combined both physical challenge and the inspirational life story of Paralympian skier Sean Rose. I watched the children respond enthusiastically to the challenging pace of a well organised exercise session. Later, Sean’s sharing of his experiences stimulated some insightful questions, all skilfully handled by both Sean and Michael.

I am copying to the Headteacher for his information.

St Pius X Catholic Primary School

A fabulous afternoon was spent by all of us at St Pius X when Danny came to visit. The sponsored activity produced high excitement with lots of laughter as well as children and adults cheering each other on. The noise was deafening! The afternoon finished with a spectacular demonstration from Danny, somersaulting and cart wheeling his way along the mats.

…………………………………………………………………..

Two Moors Primary School

The Sports for School event was a huge success at our school. All the children from reception right up to Year 6 loved the high paced fitness circuit which was both challenging and fun in equal measure. However, the highlight was the inspirational assembly led by Paralympian David Hill whose powerful story about overcoming adversity was one the resonated with pupils and staff alike and was exactly the message our Year sixes needed to hear before the their SATs

Wickhambrook Community Primary School

A big thank you and a huge well done to everybody who took part in the Sports for Schools sponsored event back in March with visiting GB gymnast Danny Lawrence.  The children managed to raise an impressive £895 in sponsorship money!  Of that amount, we have been given £415.50 to spend on new sports equipment. Sports for Schools keep £202.50 to support the work of their athletes and the remaining £277 will be sent to the Action for Children charity.

Hunloke Park Primary School

The whole school had a fantastic action packed afternoon last Tuesday when GB Hammer Thrower Sarah Holt visited us. All the children (and some of the staff) were put through their paces during their activity session. Afterwards, Sarah joined us for a Whole School Assembly and the children had the opportunity to ask her lots of questions.

Just to let you know the afternoon went really well. All the children and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves. St Andrew’s CE Primary School

I am writing to say just how much the children and staff at St. Andrew’s Primary School, Weston enjoyed the visit yesterday of Grant Turner and Sarah Holt. Grant and Sarah were open and approachable and made all the children feel very special. The whole event ran very smoothly and the children were very excited. Grant and Sarah made time to have photos taken with birthday children and to sign Olympic scrapbooks which again made the children feel very special.

Abbots Green Primary

I just want to email on behalf of all the children and staff at Abbots Green. A big big thank you for the fantastic afternoon today. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. Paul was brilliant, he really got the children going and they were all very enthusiastic. The afternoon was very well run and the whole process was extremely well organised. The children enjoyed watching Danny and I am sure he has inspired many of our children. Danny really was superb and was great with all the ages including our SSC children. It was lovely to see Danny make an effort with a little girl in a wheel chair… she was thrilled to have her picture taken with him! We are very lucky to have that opportunity and if the opportunity was there again we would definitely take part. When we got back to the classroom my class wanted to watch more of Danny on ‘You Tube’! I think the whole event was a really good idea and I really hope it does encourage children to take part in more sport.  A huge well done to you all at Sports for Schools – keep up the fantastic work!

We had a great day!! We had loads of dads there too, which made it feel really special. I have to say that Jibreel and the Sportivater with him were great – they really motivated the children. Jibreel’s story was inspiring and his demonstrations quite jaw-dropping!! I would really recommend this to other schools – a huge thanks to everyone involved!

Lowedges Junior Academy (13th July 2016)

Our sports for schools event was a real success and the organisation of it from the beginning to end has been very well thought through and smooth. From the beginning, when I called up to enquire about the event, I was given a really clear explanation of the whole process, then regular updates about things to do in the meantime. We were delighted to have a local swimmer from Sheffield come to our schools and a former Olympian as well, in Olympic year!

The information to go through before the event was really clear, including the DVD to show in assembly. Before the day there was lots of excitement around the school, and the sponsored fitness circuit was a real celebration of activity and fun. Everyone at the school would like to thank the Sports for Schools team and we will be recommending the event to other academies in our trust.

I just want to send a quick email to say how fantastic today’s event was. Andy and Ryan were amazing with the children and really motivated them to get involved and give it 100%. Andy had the entire event organised perfectly and everything ran so smoothly. The children thoroughly enjoyed their workout so I want to say a big thank you.

The assembly was also fantastic. Ryan’s talk in particular was extremely inspirational and had many of the staff with tears in their eyes. It was really good for the children to meet such an amazing man.

Thanks again,

I just wanted to let you know that we had a fantastic afternoon with Rion. He was absolutely brilliant and so fantastic with the kids. The fitness sessions ran really well and there were lots of smiles.

The assembly was really inspiring for the kids and a chance for them to ask lots of questions afterwards. All the staff have commented on what a positive role model and message he has to share with the children. Thank you for contacting us to organise this.

West Coats Primary School (16th June 2016)

I have to say the event was absolutely brilliant. The children and staff all had a great time. The Sportivater was well organised and arrived in plenty of time to get organised and certainly did a great job of motivating everyone!!

Theo had a brilliant manner with the children when he was delivering the two assemblies, the children were engaged and keen to learn more about him. So far we have collected quite a large sum of money which means it has definitely been a very worthwhile programme to be a part of. I can’t recommend this programme enough!! We will certainly look to be a part of the programme in the future. The kids are still talking about it!!

Thanks,

I am emailing to pass on my thanks again for all your help in organising our event. The day was absolutely fantastic! Everyone enjoyed the whole experience and Katrina was an inspiration to us all. Oliver ensured the day ran like clockwork and everybody commented on what a success it was. We were so impressed with how the circuit ran so smoothly considering there was over 300 taking part. We will certainly be recommending you to others. Thank you.

Many thanks again for your time and please do pass on our feedback to all your team, it really was an amazing experience for us all.

Cwmfelinfach Primary School (7th June 2016)

We had our athlete visit yesterday, the children (and staff) thoroughly enjoyed it. Unfortunately I was on a course, (I met with Andy before I rushed off and saw Dave just outside the school), but all the feedback I have had has been fantastic. The children were brilliantly behaved, all were challenged, engaged and enthusiastic. The staff all spoke highly of Andy, Dave and especially Liz, who stayed behind to answer more questions from our Yr 6 pupils. Our deputy head was very impressed with both the circuits session and the assembly, and the children asked thoughtful and considerate questions. The sessions all went smoothly, were highly organised and your team supported and motivated the children very well. We would definitely participate in this activity again in the future.

Many thanks,

Cumnor Primary School (27th May 2016)

Many thanks for sending Dave and Elizabeth to Cumnor Primary School – the event was a huge hit and the children (and staff) had a really great time. I personally was thrilled at the positive associations being made between exercise and fun – makes my job as the PE Coordinator easier!

Dave was a fantastic visitor, very calm, very good at speaking to the children, even brought in his bike and let one of the teachers have a go! Elizabeth also was fantastic – had everything sorted out and ready to roll in no time. Many of the teachers commented to me how well run they thought the event was and I couldn’t agree more – both athletes were fantastic at getting everything set up and running it smoothly. Since Elizabeth is a world-class athlete herself, I wouldn’t have minded hearing a bit from her too, but she filled her role as Sportivater brilliantly!

Thank you for all the hard work that Sports for Schools do to make events like this easy to run, it is much appreciated!

Holbeach Primary School (28th April 2016)

Just wanted to let you know we had a fantastic afternoon with Melanie and Roy (Turnham). The children were buzzing on the day, when they went home and still buzzing today. Roy was great and just what our children needed to help encourage, motivate and give them the opportunity to empathise with other people who also have challenges in their life and have overcome them so successfully, but humbly too. His dog was also a big hit and again a really special bonus for the children to bond with. Again, many thanks, please pass on our best wishes and thanks again to Roy , we would love to have him back, and also to Melanie who was fabulous to get along with and ran the session fantastically.

I just wanted to email to say thank you for the amazing visit from Joe Roebuck this morning. It was so inspiring for all of the children to hear what Joe’s career has entailed of and how hard he has worked to achieve all the things he has done. Joe had a brilliant manner with the children which resulted in them participating throughout the assembly and asking suitable questions at the end of it. It really was inspiring to have Joe come to our school today and I know both the children, and the adults, have benefited from listening to such an inspiring story. Everyone from Reddal Hill would like to wish Joe the best of luck at his Olympic trials in April; we hope to him on the television!! Thank you again.

I can honestly say it was one of the best mornings our school has been involved with both in a sporting sense but also in a social sense in bringing the whole school together. Belinda, the sportivater was absolutely fantastic, she was enthusiastic, highly motivating and had a fantastic rapport with all the children. She helped make the event very special and was a delight!! In addition, it was an honour to have someone like Dave Abrutat who’s achievements in sport and life in general are truly mind blowing and a real inspiration to us all. He was very humble and he most definitely inspired and touched us all with his life story. A truly amazing individual, lovely man and a real pleasure to have visit out school. Can I please say a massive thank you again from all at Sledmere for such a wonderful day. If we had to rate Sports for Schools out of 10 based on this day it would be 10/10. We will definitely be booking again.

Meadowbrook Primary School (2nd October 2015)

Where can I begin?

The event was run so smoothly, had the whole school done by break! Ben and Andy were so efficient in getting it to work. The staff mentioned how enthusiastic they seem, comparing Andy to Mr Motivator.  Even our Reception seemed to enjoy their first PE lesson! I saw so many pupils that usually dislike PE really getting involved- we have photo evidence! Majority of staff got involved, and were still feeling it yesterday!

The assembly was inspiring, the blue bands given for hard work was a lovely idea. Would have been nice to have one from each year group essentially. Ben was so flexible, visited a few classes that didn’t get a chance to see the medals and answered further questions.

It gave an opportunity to have an open conversation with the older pupils especially on the topic of disability and sport.

All in all, it was an amazing morning that has left an impact on pupils and teachers.

Thank you to Ben and Andy- they were a brilliant team.

Haydon Wick Primary School (25th June 2015)

I thought the event was marvellous! Very Inspiring and lots and lots of FUN!

Ben spoke very well to the children as I know this can be very daunting watching 300 pupils staring at you & hanging on your every word but he was very humble, inspiring, funny and engaging. The workshops ran so smoothly & promptly! Which myself & the principal were very impressed with so a huge well done!

Andy our motivator was very good, he kept the children engaged and going! He also had very good behaviour management when he had hyped the children up with a countdown, he could also get them quiet & ready to start again. I liked the music this made it fun & exciting for the children.

Thank you so much for allowing the children to touch & handle the medals & Ben made the rules & boundaries very clear to the children & they respected them. The talk was very well balanced with video clips, images, volunteer interaction and talk.

Overall I have been very impressed with the organisation, communication & delivery of this scheme & hope to do it again soon, I’m not sure it will be every year due to the sponsorship factor, but we will definitely be looking forward to having you back in the future!

A HUGE thank you to Ben, Andy & your team

They had lots of fun and we took lots of photos (there’s lots on our twitter @cwprimary if you’d like to see some). The assembly was amazing, we went from excited, bouncy children to children who sat there so quietly and were completely inspired by everything Katrina was saying. They asked fantastic questions too. Strand-on-the-Green Infant and Nursery School (5th March 2015)

We were indeed inspired by Yamile’s [Aldamo – past World Champion Triple Jumper] visit – poor thing on crutches she still managed to hobble around an enthuse the children. We are now rooting for her to get into the GB team for Rio and will watch out for her at future events. I have to say that dealing with the very small children in our infant school and their rather often random questions is not always straightforward, but Yamile handled it very well and gave such an interesting talk about her background and the guts and determination needed to make it in athletics. And we were all thoroughly inspired by our sportivator Paul, who got us jumping with excitement. But, just as importantly, he used his common sense in getting equipment out and putting it away without fussing and asking questions, and he also organised the children with respect and a really good sense of fun. Thank you all so much – we may well be asking for a rerun!

Best wishes

Firstly I would like to say that all the children had a fantastic time today! Tony and Lee were very good with them too. I think all the staff would agree that the event today will have some positive effects on children and inspire them to chase their dreams. If only I had the same opportunities when I was younger I may not have ended up as a teacher. We will definitely think about organising the events next year too.

Do you know of any running/athletic clubs that we could send our children to? There are lots of children that have potential, both Lee and Tony recognised one of our Year 4 boys during a demonstration in the assembly. I’d like to be able to give him and his parents some information to encourage him to pursue his talent.

The Downs CEP School, Kent (3rd February 2015)

On Tuesday, we were lucky to have Paul Reeve and Kola Adedoyin at our school for our fitness event.

All children were eager to take part and thoroughly enjoyed their time. Many children, who do not normally like to take part in these type of activities, demonstrated many of our school values such as resilience and emotional intelligence.

If asked, I would highly recommend this activity to any school. Thank you again for a wonderful time.

Escomb Primary School, County Durham (27th January 2015)

We had a fabulous day. All the children were excited to meet Chris [Tomlinson: 3-times Olympian], and our sportivater Chris was also very motivating. The event ran very smoothly and everyone got involved. The local paper even turned up!! Chris’ assembly was very inspiring, his messages about always trying your best and going for your dreams were perfect for our children. The children have all been creating posters and reports about the day.

Once again, thank you for a very well run event, both through the pack and information I have received, as well as Chris being in school.

Thank you for organising the event. It was a fabulous afternoon, an afternoon that I am sure that will not be forgotten by the pupils here at Ballard. Thank you for giving us this opportunity to meet a super athlete. Lee’s visit had an inspiring impact on our pupils and staff who were in awe at his determination and positive attitude. Trimley St Mary Primary School, Suffolk (15th October 2014)

Danny has inspired many children at Trimley St Mary. Working with Danny and seeing his inspirational assembly is a memory that many children and adults at Trimley St Mary will never forget. Staff and parents have commented positively on how fantastic Danny is and how he has motivated children to start doing their own gymnastics at school and at home. We are so inspired that we are going to use the money raised to put towards a crash mat so the children feel just like Danny Lawrence.

Everyone at ‘Sports for Schools’ has been extremely helpful throughout. Thank you very much.

Cadishead Primary School, Salford (10th October 2014)

I firstly wanted to say a huge thank you for the event you put on at the school with Lee Whiteley on Friday 10th October. The children and staff both had a great time, and have been talking about it ever since! I wanted to say a thanks on a personal level, as I have a child in my class who also has cerebral palsy, and Lee made a special effort to have his picture taken with him and chat with him. He was absolutely delighted and I know it is an experience he will never forget, so thank you.

The children were so inspired by the visit that we decided to integrate it into our literacy work last week. The year 5 children have been writing blogs about Lee’s visit to the school which we are going to post up on our school website. I was wondering if it would be possible for you to share the link to the children’s work on your social media when it has been published? It would mean a huge amount to them as they have put so much effort into writing these blogs, and giving them a huge audience on line would be fantastic!

Please let me know if you think this would be possible [YES – Click here for the Tweet!], and thanks again for a wonderful day.

St Helen’s Infant School (5th July 2016)

I wanted to drop you a line to let you know how inspired Tilly was today by Rachael .She was able to tell me so many of Rachael’s anecdotal stories particularly around motivation and striving for success. Listening to Tilly telling me about it all, I felt inspired myself. What a wonderful time in their lives to reinforce that natural ‘I can do and be anything I want’ attitude that young children have. As we know all too soon doubt and insecurity can set in as they grow and they begin to challenge their ideals and the world around them.I hope Tilly and the rest if the school will remember Rachael and all that she has achieved particularly with physical challenges she faces. As they grow and have to face challenges I hope they can reflect back on what they have heard today.

Please pass on my thanks to the staff that helped support this visit and to Rachael herself. If only 1 child has been inspired, she has passed on her legacy.

I had the pleasure of meeting Alistair when I arrived to pick my son up from school, the teachers wanted to let him know that my son George also had Cerebral Palsy. George hasn’t stopped telling everyone about the visit, Alistair is a real inspiration and I just wanted to make him aware of the wonderful impact he has had on George and the other children that day. Every morning George does his physio and he loves to try the new exercises that Alistair showed them all.
